A slab that has not moved since 2013
Telangana inherited the undivided Andhra Pradesh Act of 1987, adapted it in 2015, and still uses the salary slab set by G.O.Ms.No.82 of 4 February 2013. The thresholds have not been raised in thirteen years, so every pay rise since has carried more employees past ₹20,000 and into the ₹200 band.
Telangana never added a February top-up either. Any calculator showing ₹2,500 for Telangana has borrowed Karnataka's or Maharashtra's pattern.
Paying Telangana professional tax online
The Commercial Taxes Department's own portal, ptax.tgct.gov.in, handles registration and e-payment and issues an e-receipt. Employers file Form V with proof of full payment by the 10th of the following month.
With one employer you never pay yourself. You need the portal only if self-employed, a professional, or holding a second job: the second proviso to s.5 lets you give your employer a certificate (Form III or IV), enrol, and pay before 30 June each year instead.
Telangana professional tax due dates, interest and penalty
Monthly for employers, by the 10th of the following month, according to the department's guidance; yearly for enrolled individuals, before 30 June.
| Telangana rule | |
|---|---|
| Employer deducting from salary | A return in Form V, with proof of payment of the full tax, by the 10th of the month after the month it relates to. |
| Self-employed or enrolled person | Before 30 June if enrolled before the year began or by 31 May; within one month of enrolment if enrolled after 31 May (s.10). |
| Interest on late payment | Interest at 2% a month — "two rupees for every one hundred rupees or part thereof for every month or part thereof" — from the due date (s.11, Rule 24). |
| Penalty | A penalty of not less than 25% and not more than 50% of the tax due, on top of interest (s.12). |
| Late return fee | ₹5 to ₹100 for each day the return is late (s.7(3)). |
What paying late costs, in rupees
Every part-month counts as a full month, and the penalty is 25% to 50%, so even a short delay is expensive. On ₹2,400 a year:
| Paid late by | Interest | Penalty | Total extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 months | ₹144 | ₹600 to ₹1,200 | ₹744 to ₹1,344 |
| 12 months | ₹576 | ₹600 to ₹1,200 | ₹1,176 to ₹1,776 |
Telangana professional tax payment online and registration
A general e-payment page for all Commercial Taxes Acts also exists on tgct.gov.in, but the dedicated PT portal is the one that issues the profession tax e-receipt.

The line should be identical every month. ₹300 in February means payroll has applied another State's rule. Form 16 shows ₹2,400 as tax on employment.
Telangana against its neighbours
At ₹50,000 a month Telangana takes ₹2,400 against ₹2,500 in Karnataka and Maharashtra — but it starts charging at ₹15,001, where Karnataka waits until ₹25,000.
What we could not verify for Telangana
Left out rather than guessed. If any of these matters to you, ask your payroll team or the department.
- No Telangana exemption was found for senior citizens, armed forces or parents of disabled children on the department's list of notifications. That is not proof none exists, so this page does not claim one either way.
- The 10th-of-the-month due date comes from the department's own help page; it was not found in the text of the Rules.

Constitutional ceiling on the total professional tax payable by one person in a State, per year
Constitution of India, Article 276(2), as amended by the Constitution (Sixtieth Amendment) Act, 1988. The Statement of Objects and Reasons records that clause (2) previously capped the tax at "two hundred and fifty rupees per annum" and that it was "accordingly proposed to amend clause (2) of article 276 of the Constitution to increase the ceiling of profession tax from two hundred and fifty rupees per annum to two thousand and five hundred rupees per annum", omitting the then-existing proviso as no longer relevant. The levy itself is imposed by each State under Article 276(1) through its own Act, so the slabs differ by State and no national slab table exists.
